Today, February 24^th, José González returns with the new single “A Perfect Storm,” out now via City Slang/Playground Music. The track is the latest release from his upcoming album Against The Dying Of The Light, which will be released on March 27, 2026. The singles “Pajarito” and “Against The Dying Of The Light” were released last autumn and earlier this winter.

The song moves between quiet reflection and suppressed intensity, where a pulsing guitar pattern gradually builds toward a distorted climax. Thematically, it revolves around a present in which technological development, artificial intelligence, and human decisions are shaping an increasingly unpredictable future.

“A Perfect Storm is about how we ourselves are creating the conditions for a more and more turbulent future” says José González. Compared to natural risks, these are man-made—and therefore not random,” says José González.

The single serves as an entry point to the upcoming album Against The Dying Of The Light, González’s fifth studio album and his first with new original material in over four years. The album moves between acoustic intimacy and more expansive arrangements, exploring themes such as existential risk, human responsibility, and the possibility of change in a complex present.
